Brief summary: venue - Brighton Beach time - 9.30am - 2.30pm turnout - 42 people weather - hot, windy (14-28degrees) random facts - 20pizzas were consumed.... MASS’s first ever event for the semester had kicked off with a much welcomed trip to Brighton Beach of which had attracted a crowd of 42 members, as well as an additional 5 new members on the day itself! Yaay for MASS! The day was bright and early (and a little bit chilly) when we had departed for the beach, and we were most fortunate to have planted ourselves on a very favourable spot which had a good shade from the sun when it got rather warm as the day progressed, as well as ample space to carry out several activities, plus the seashore was not too far off either; much to the delight of several boys who had decided to throw their fellow friends into the cold water of the ocean. The event had started with a quick ice breaker session of which members were formed into small groups where they would use that opportunity to get to know a little bit more about each other and use those little pieces of information to create a story based on a particular movie genre. Things had gotten unexpectedly interesting as members had chosen to act out their stories using props and manpower they had on them, which had proven to add further entertainment to the game. A generous course of lunch was then provided in the forms of multiple stacks of pizza; in various flavours to suit various preferences, galore of junk food and drinks. Many had grabbed this opportunities to meet new people and take heaps of photos, and testing out the cool waters of the sea whilst collecting seashells. As an attempt to promote a healthy lifestyle, members were coerced into a rather large circle and thus, the “No Brainer” game commenced. During this time, members are made to run around according to what was required of them via the rules and guidelines of the game, and those who were slow are first made to introduce themselves to the group before putting them some horrid humiliating forms of punishments (or at least we’d like to think so). Soon after, three groups were formed up again, and “Longest Chain” game begun; members are to use items they have on them, no external sources allowed, as to create the longest chain on the beach. Things got entertaining, if not amusing, when guys started to throw their shirts off and throwing themselves into the chain as well. This little game had attracted several onlookers, prompting amused laughter which was all good as everything was all for fun. Congratulations to Team 2 who were various obvious winners as their chain had stretched to lengths beyond imaginable. All in all, the event was an incredible success for the start of semester; everyone was happy, met heaps of new people, drenched from seawater, and possibly a little sunburnt. Thank you everyone for helping make the event a successful and enjoyable one! Article by Melissa (Activity Officer) Posted by your dear ol prez who did not get dunked, lol |
